CONSULTATIONS ON THE DESIGN OF BLUEING THE BLACK SEA PROGRAMME -

A REGIONAL INITIATIVE TO TACKLE MARINE POLLUTION AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN SUPPORT OF THE COMMON MARITIME AGENDA FOR THE BLACK SEA

Thursday, 22 April 2021, 14:30-16:45 (Bucharest, GMT+3)

Online with simultaneous translation

The Permanent International Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC PERMIS), the World Bank, and the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Waters, and Forests of Romania are organizing a stakeholder webinar to initiate consultations in Romania on the design of the Blueing the Black Sea (BBSEA) Program: A Regional Initiative to Tackle Marine Pollution and Climate Change in the Black Sea.

The main sessions of the webinar will introduce:

I. The Integrated Nutrient Pollution Control Project implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Waters, and Forests, through World Bank support. The overall development objective of this project is to support the Government of Romania towards meeting its obligations related to the implementation of EU Water Framework Directive and particularly EU Nitrates Directive requirements by (a) reducing nutrients discharges to water bodies, (b) promoting behavioural changes at the communal level, and (c) strengthening institutional and regulatory capacity. Project interventions are designed to reduce the discharge of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorous) into water bodies leading to the Danube and the Black Sea over the long term, through integrated land and water management.

II. Blueing the Black Sea (BBSEA) Program: a Regional Initiative to Tackle Marine pollution and Climate Change in the Black Sea aims to support the Black Sea countries in expanding the body of knowledge (analytical component) and in mobilizing investments and technical assistance (investment component) for addressing the most pressing challenges in the areas of Black Sea pollution prevention, reduction, and control.

As part of this work, a Global Environment Facility-funded BBSEA regional project intends to finance a grant competition targeting the public and private sectors to develop innovative projects tackling marine pollution and its sources.

**** The webinar will be highly interactive and engage with the audience through a live survey and Q&As with the panellists and moderators.

The outcome of the webinar will define the area of expertise and knowledge Romania would like to share and receive through the envisaged the BBSEA regional program and will inform the dialogue of the World Bank with the Government of Romania in the field of blue economy.

The working languages of the event will be English and Romanian, with simultaneous interpretation available to facilitate interaction.

More information will soon be available at: http://www.bsec-bsvkc.org/Forms/BlueingTheBlackSeaProject and through EVENT feature in the World Bank Country Office webpage.
